Tomorrow's story is a big important one (also it's pretty exciting I think) It takes place at the same time this one does so you can imagine who and what it's about. Also this one is short and the next one (after tuesday's story is short) because I needed to get two stories in before 2.8
Title: The Family Way. Author: bitchandjerk Characters: Sam/Dean,John/Mary/OFC OMCs OFCs Rating :R Words7,700/2,790,800 Warnings: Wincest, Summary: With Michael in Alabama, Sam and Dean try to pass the day as normally as possible. Notes::AU, rest are here. Disclaimer: I don't own any of these characters. Feedback: Makes me hard
After Michael left on Thursday night Dean couldn't sleep. He had mostly smoothed things over with Alex and he had to let Michael be his own man but sleep still wouldn't come. He fooled around with Sam some and then just got out of bed after staring at the ceiling for a few hours. It was almost four in the morning which was way too early to get up especially after not a wink of sleep, but just staring at nothing was a big waste of time.
Luckily for Dean he wasn't the only one awake. When he made the rounds to check on the kids he found Mary staring at the ceiling as well at least until he showed up and she started to stare at him. She had tinkled and apparently Dean got there just before she was about to start yelling. After a diaper change she always went right back to sleep, but if Dean was up he wanted just a little bit of company so he brought her to the attic and made a little nest for her out of one of Carol's quilts. Mary seemed pretty pleased by that and curled into a tight little ball before falling back to sleep.
Ollie's bee costume was as perfect as it could possibly be. In fact Dean was worried that if he put any more work into it that someone might try to swat his baby boy with a rolled up newspaper and then as a family they'd have to kill a bitch since getting swatted totally messed up curls. Ollie's headband perfectly matched his daddy colored hair and his antenna were made out of fuzzy black pipe cleaners that Dean had expertly and painstakingly twisted and curled until they were perfect. The antenna were topped off with two little yellow pompoms which were going to provide just enough bounce.
The sweatshirt, which was the main part of the costume had been lined and stuffed with cotton so the bee body was all pudgy and rounded. It was freaking adorable on the mannequin and Dean couldn't wait to see it with Ollie's natural stuffing. The little black pants had a long pointy stinger made of a metallic fabric and stuffed so it could support itself while remaining soft enough that Ollie could still sit down. Dean had made it all himself with a little help from Sam. When Ollie asked they were both going to tell him they worked on it, but Sam was taking full credit for the little pair of aviators which he felt were just perfect for any Beanie Bee. That was fine with Dean because he was taking full credit for the little pail he painted yellow and black before adding the word "Honey" to it. Ollie needed something to collect candy in and that was just about perfect since he was full of honey already.
Mikey's costume was also done and pretty fucking sweet if Dean could say so himself. Charlie's costume was equally sweet and Dean had actually made his as well. The plan was for Justin to make it, but he showed up crying on Wednesday night because he burned his fingers while trying to hot glue a Jedi robe together. Charlie then came over the next day after school and asked very nicely if Dean would help him out because Justin wasn't very crafty. The costume took about ten minutes to make and Dean didn't use any glue at all. To be fair a lot of it was store bought, but Dean had made the kick ass robes and ordered special awesome light sabers
Ethan's and Evan's costumes were a different matter entirely because Dean had started to work on them after Tuesday when he needed something to occupy his mind. Carol had brought him lots of fancy and shiny trims and a big bottle of fabric glue but that was the easy way and Dean would have been done in a day or so. He used some glue to trim out the little jackets, but when it came to the capes he threaded a needle and started to sew. His fingers were purple and black and numb most of the time but he was about half way through two utterly fabulous enchilada capes that were dripping with sparkles, way more than the initial two hundred Evan asked for.
Dean used sequin trim in the center of the capes to make a gigantic E which he thought was pretty sweet looking. The capes were a little Vegas but Ethan and Evan were stars and Dean wanted to make sure everyone knew it. It didn't hurt anything that Evan was just the sweetest thing in the world and was rubbing Dean's fingers each night after dinner so he could keep on sewing. Dean had even trimmed out the sombreros with extra sequins on top of the ones they came with.
Time really flew when you were repeatedly stabbing yourself in the fingers and cursing under your breath and before Dean knew it Sam was coming in the attic door with Ollie in his arms. Ollie hadn't seen his costume yet and his eyes were squeezed shut as tightly as he could make them. He was obviously ready to rock and roll because the only clothes he had on were his tiny black boxer briefs and his Bumble Beanie socks which were yellow and black.
"Open up, baby." Sam whispered. "He's ready."
"A sure?"
"I'm sure, Beanie." Dean laughed. "We're ready!"
"Well then a gonna…wha! Wha in a world!"
"Do you like it!"
"Oh, daddy! You don even know!"
Ollie was squirming like a slippery greased weasel until Sam put him on the floor. He ran right over to the costume and made the biggest deal out of the costume that Dean had ever seen. He was gasping and covering his mouth and he even fanned himself a little like there was danger of him having a fainting spell. Some people might have thought he was being sarcastic but Dean knew that Ollie thought his bee costume was the most incredible thing in the history of the world simply because it was daddy made.
"Do you like it, baby?"
"Oh, a do indeed! Look at a wings and a bee penis!"
"Stinger."
"Wha? Oh, wight! Daddy, ya outdo a self."
"I helped!" Sam beamed. "I helped make that."
"Oh, a know, daddy. Ya do almose as good as daddy."
"Huh." Sam whispered. "I'll take it. Let's get you dressed and then we'll take you to school."
"Shouldn't we have breakfast first?"
"I fed him, dad's downstairs with the rest of them."
"Why didn't you come get me, Sammy?" Dean asked. "I eat breakfast too."
"Because I'm taking you out to breakfast." Sam smiled. "It's Friday, date night…or morning."
"Aww, that's sweet."
"I do try."
"And then." Ollie whispered. "A tell him to give you a butt!"
"He tried to pull that with me last night, Beanie!"
"Wha! A didna say you could!"
"Well." Sam sighed. "A did anyway!"
"Wha! Wit a bzz!"
Ollie's costume was pretty damn precious on the mannequin but there was no denying that it looked infinitely better on him. He pulled on the little pants first and practiced backing into Sam so he could get his stinger working right. The top went on next and as Dean expected it was just stuffed enough. Ollie could still move freely but he was the chunkiest bee on record, totally chunkier than Elmer would be. Sam laced up his black shoes and Dean worked those curls around the headband. Once he had his black sunglasses on he was ready to go and Dean let him take his special candy pail to school with him because they were going to get some little toys and snacks.
Dean brought Mary back to her room where Milo was still napping and then he threw on some jeans and brushed his teeth. John and all the kids agreed that Ollie was looking fantastic and he made sure to mention that there were some top notch enchilada capes in the attic which looked awesome. That made Ethan and Evan very excited and they couldn't wait for Sunday even more. Mikey was eight and Dean was a little worried about Halloween starting to become a baby thing for him but he was just as thrilled to hear about his costume which maybe had something to do with Charlie wearing the same thing.
On the ride to school Ollie listed all the reasons why Sam should get a butt from and give a butt to John instead of Dean. The most obvious was that Ollie didn't give a Bzz what anyone did with John and Dean was his property. Also he try to explain to Sam that if they got rid of the contacts John would wear his glasses all the time which made him almost as good as Dean. Sam was in the front seat and Dean saw him roll his eyes about six times but eventually he crossed his fingers and promised that there would be no giving or getting butt from anyone except grandpa.
"Those fingers look good together like that, Sammy." Dean whispered. "Add that ring finger to the mix and you'll have one happy daddy on your hands…then face."
"Stop it." Sam blushed. "Are you okay?"
"I'm worried."
"It'll be okay, Michael won't be anywhere near them."
"I know, I know, I'm just worried that this is more than Jeremy can pull off."
"Is fine with Awon." Ollie said from the backseat. "Is bettah wit a brotha."
"Well." Sam said as he looked back. "We finally agree on something."
"And if you want two butts then you get both fwom gwampa!"
"Best visual ever." Dean sighed. "Thank you, Beanie, you're right."
Dean knew that Jeremy was much better with Aaron right next to him but he still couldn't help but worry. They were not only busting someone out of jail but they were doing big time mojo so no one went looking for Jason. Little mojo was fine with Dean and he openly admitted it was a little fun, but the last time Jeremy did something major he was out of it for the entire weekend. He had done that solo though and Aaron being there was apparently going to make a huge difference.
When they pulled up to the daycare Dean pushed all of it out of his head because it was Ollie's special day. It was, as far as he could remember, his very first Halloween party and definitely his first big boy party at big boy school with his big boy friends. He was awfully cute about the whole thing and he made the biggest deal out of all the decorations outside the school which were so scary Dean nearly crapped his britches.
The inside of the school was decorated as well and it was equally cute, but Dean's full attention was fixed on Elmer and two very tricky lesbys. Dean had already met Alison who wasn't nearly as butch as she was the last time he had seen her. She was with Carrie who Chris had consistently described as smoking hot and he wasn't exaggerating. She was very easy on the eyes and Dean wouldn't have minded jacking it in a cup and tossing it up her giggy. His brain even stroked off for a second and he put on his million dollar smile which Ollie slapped right off his face before Sam had a chance to.
"Elmah!"
"Ollie! Wha a nice costume!"
"And you!" Ollie gasped. "Oh, daddy, look at it."
"I see that." Dean whispered. "How…crafty."
"Is that tie-dye?" Sam asked. "That's aborable! Hi, I'm Sam."
"Carrie, this is my wife Alison and it's tie dye."
Ollie's costume was totally cuter and had taken a lot more effort but Elmer's was pretty inventive. He was wearing a black and yellow tie-dyed shirt with black pants and antenna. He didn't have wings though so Dean was sure Ollie would win the costume contest. There wasn't a big prize or anything but Dean still wanted to win and it seemed very likely since most of the kids were in store bought costumes.
Dean saw a few characters from TV and a few little vampires, but nothing really caught his eye except for the very elaborate flower eating her breakfast. Alison and Carrie had already noticed her and Dean nudged Sam as hard as he could to get his attention. Elmer and Ollie had both decided to be bees for Halloween together and it just so happened that Holly was dressed as a big bright flower. Suddenly Ollie's insistence that his costume have a stinger made a lot more sense and he was just glad Holly's mom wasn't around.
"Oh my." Sam whispered. "Baby, did you know Holly was going to be a flower?"
"Imma sting her so many times!"
"And me!" Elmer yelled. "You and then me and then wit you again then me, then wit you!"
"Then both!" Ollie yelled back. "Twice!"
"Yeah!"
"Maybe you two can sting each other!"
"Dean!" Sam whispered. "Jesus."
"It's not a bad idea." Alison whispered. "How many friends has Holly had?"
"Several." Carrie whispered back. "Elmer, you have a wonderful and productive day."
"And you, mommy! A kisses!"
Dean didn't know that Holly was the day care tramp but it made a lot of sense since she seemed to have several admirers. Ollie was still sort of into her, but it was pretty obvious that Elmer was his flavor of the week, at least the morning since afternoons were meant for daddy. After they said their goodbyes and got kisses Elmer and Ollie walked through the little gated area hand in hand and went straight to Holly.
"Look at that." Dean sighed. "Not even a second of foreplay. That's my boy!"
"Why'd you have to make the stinger so big?"
"Have you ladies seem Sam's Armani ad in the city?"
"I have your ad as my computer wallpaper." Carrie said. "Well, part of it at least."
"Is it his smoldering smile?"
"No, not at all."
"Nice." Dean grinned. "That's hot."
"How kind of you." Sam laughed. "Most people aren't as honest about…oh God!"
When Dean looked back at the kids Ollie and Elmer were both backing into Holly at the same time and she was just giggling her head off. Sam was just mortified but it was his fault that stinger was so big and Dean took full blame for Ollie being the hottest top bee in the world. Chris broke them up eventually and then Dean got out of there with Sam so they could have breakfast and he could maybe get stung.
Sam was really expecting Alison to be some kind of Paul Bunyan lesbian, but Dean had obviously been exaggerating because she was barely butcher than Ellen. Her and Carrie both seemed really nice and Sam was a little tempted to invite them to breakfast but he had a plan and two lesbians weren't a part of it. Unfortunately his plan didn't happen the way it was supposed to so inviting them really wouldn't have been that big of a deal.
Dean was worried and nervous about Michael, so Sam thought the best thing to do was to occupy him all day until they came back. He was going to take him out to get a big breakfast and not say a thing about what Dean ordered or ate. After Dean was full Sam was going to take him back to the house and do sexy times for at least a few hours or until it was time to pick Ollie up again. He figured once they were all sitting down for lunch Dean would be better and by that time they should have had some kind of news from Michael, Jeremy, or Aaron.
It certainly seemed like a good plan but Dean only ordered two eggs, a bowl of grits, and a side of bacon. Sam tried to suggest he order some disgusting fat boy breakfast but he said he wasn't that hungry which was basically the equivalent of him saying everything that could go wrong in his life was going wrong all at the same time. To make matters worse he didn't finish his bacon and like Ollie he had never met a pig living or dead he didn't like.
After breakfast they went back to the house and Sam tried to sneak in, but Dean went straight for the kids to tell them hello. Since Alex was off with Michael they were having a day off with John. They were just kind of hanging out and reading Halloween books while waiting for Ollie to come home so they could watch Halloween movies. Sam was pretty sure Dean went to the kids on purpose because the babies saw their daddies were home which killed any chance of nasty no-no time without a big explanation. Mary wouldn't have cared where they went but a certain redheaded angel needed Sam all the time unless he was sleeping.
"How was breakfast, daddy?" Mikey asked. "Was it excellent or just very good?"
"It was pretty good." Dean smiled. "Did you guys have fun with grandpa?"
"We read a book about a rabbit vampire." Ethan said. "Which is just ridiculous."
"There's no such thing as vampires." Evan added. "And then a rabbit one."
"But there is a murderous cat not unlike Apple Juice, and a dog."
"Like you, Spotty!"
Spotty looked up from where he was napping to wag his tail at Evan but that was as much effort as he could be expected to exert while inside. When he was outside he was running and jumping all over the place, but inside he had a severe case of lazy bones which he had apparently picked up from that damn cat. It was lying on top of the sofa with it's tail sort of stroking the fabric and Sam glared at him as was customary but Apple Juice had never and would never give a damn what anyone except Mikey thought of him or his murderous indiscretions.
"Dad." Sam said. "You're reading them Bunnicula?"
"Oh, Sammy, it's awesome. This is my favorite book."
"Seriously?"
"It's just so awesome." John whispered. "Best book I've ever read."
"Hmm." Sam said. "I'll remember that the next time we're all mired in the opulence of our surroundings."
"Huh? Oh, Sam, your books don't count."
"Ahem."
"Are you getting sick?" John asked. "Don't cough on me."
"I'm not getting sick." Dean sighed. "Dad, you're a wonderful father."
"I know, right? Anyway, once Ollie gets back…"
"Grandpa." Mikey said. "Daddy writes books too which are far superior to this ridiculous tale of a vampire rabbit and a dog that can read."
"Yeah, but there's a lot of goat in his books."
"The goat is the soul of the book." Dean said. "Except for that tall king, he is hot."
"We like the short king." Evan said. "Though the tall one isn't without his charms."
"What about you two?" Sam asked. "We're having a riveting discussion about literature."
Mary looked up from caring for her doll and waved, but Milo was all ears and dropped everything he was doing to crawl over and plop in Sam's lap. Sam, being the excellent daddy that he was, immediately reached over to grab the alphabet book because he was sure Milo would need it and Mary would want it. She looked over at it for a second but she was mostly all about the doll Ollie had bought her when the rest of the kids started camp.
She was too little at the time but a few weeks ago Sam took it out of the box and gave it to her and they had been inseparable every since. She wasn't as attached to it as Milo was with his alphabet book but she slept with the doll and always yelled if someone didn't bring it down in the morning when they brought her down. Ethan had been unsuccessfully trying to play with it for the past week or so but she had no interest in sharing.
"Tell him what grandpa taught you." John whispered. "Go ahead."
"Wahbahbahday!" Milo said dramatically. "Bahbahday."
"Not that. Who am I! What's my name!"
"Whappa!"
"Close!"
"Bah…pah!"
"Boppa!" John beamed. "That's my name!"
"That's…adorable." Sam said. "Did you teach him that?"
"Of course I did! Boppa!"
"Bahpah!" Milo laughed. "Dahdah."
"No, no, just me, Boppa. Don't say that other word, it's bad."
"Dad." Dean sighed. "Don't discourage him."
"He'll get your penis!"
"Wahbahdahbah!"
Milo had been dropping the d-bomb for the past few days and Sam wanted to scream every time he said it. Sometimes it was DahBah but he was starting to pretty consistently say just Dahdah plain and simple. Boppa was new and if Milo wanted to call John that Sam was on board because it was precious and he looked very cute saying it. Mary still hadn't said anything they could even pretend was a real word and she didn't seem like she was working on walking either. Milo got the urge a few times a day but she sat or crawled and that was it.
"Daddy." Ethan said. "Milo was wondering about this brother Michael went to buy."
"He didn't go to buy him, he went to pick him up."
"Well, what's the difference? You'll call daddy and tell him to pick up a loaf of bread."
"Is he a baby?" Evan whispered. "We can keep him with Milo."
"Wahbahdahbey!"
"Evan, you know Milo's saving the other half of his crib for Wystan." Mikey said. "Daddy, we were all wondering about this brother and grandpa said he didn't know but he knows almost everything and he wears the pants in his relationship."
"That kid is a genius." John whispered to Dean. "A complete genius."
"Yes, let's all marvel at my uncanny ability to recall things you spent ten minutes forcing me to memorize."
"Your ridiculousness never ceases to amaze me, Boppa." Dean said. "Now, um…Michael's brother…He's…"
They had told the kids that Michael was going to get his brother but that was only because he was going to be gone all day and they'd wonder where he was. He saw them everyday and his absence was going to raise a lot of questions so last night at dinner he mentioned going to see his brother and none of the kids said anything or asked any questions. They all just kind of nodded and then started to talk about other things like dancing or bumble bees. Mikey looked like he wanted to ask questions but he just went right back to eating.
Sam had mistakenly assumed they were in the clear when they obviously weren't. All the kids were looking at Dean so expectantly and he was throwing glances at Sam like he was in need of a life preserver. The problem was that Sam knew little about Jason and the things he did know weren't appropriate for the kids to hear. The other problem was that when Mikey had asked why they had such a handsome older brother they had told him Michael lived with them and became their son because his family was mean. Mikey shared with the twins so all three of them were wondering why someone who was mean would be coming to stay at Michael's house. It didn't help anything that John seemed to be waiting for an answer as well and Dean had been against the whole thing so he shouldn't have had to answer.
"His brother's name is Jason." Sam said. "And he's just coming to visit Michael for a few days, maybe a week or so."
"But he's not our brother." Evan said. "Right?"
"Right, he's Michael's brother."
"Who was mean." Mikey said. "And he's now coming to live with him. Why is that?"
"Because your big brother is too good for his own good." Dean said. "Michael's family was mean to him, but apparently Jason…couldn't help it."
"Like me?"
"No, Ethan, it's different." Sam laughed. "Really different. "
They were really working blind and if Jeremy was correct then Jason was a hell of a lot more innocent than anyone was ever going to give him credit for. Clay and Ty and pretty much everyone else just had to be gently encouraged but Jason was forced against his will to hurt Michael. It didn't change the fact that he had hurt him for years, but Sam couldn't help but wonder what that really meant for Michael, Jason, and everyone else as well.
The worst and best scenario was Jason showing up and saying that he had no idea why he had done the things he had. That would be great for Michael because he'd be proven right and he'd always know that one of his brothers had loved him. On the other hand, Sam had to think about Jeremy as well because if he found out Jason was the sweetest person in the world whom he had corrupted that was going to be a major blow for him. Sam wasn't sure there were enough hours in the day for Jeremy to "make it up to" someone else.
"Sometimes things aren't always how they seem." Dean said. "We thought he was mean and he might be, we're just reevaluating things to be sure."
"So do we have to be nice to him?" Ethan asked. "When we hang out."
"You won't be hanging out with him." Dean said as he shook his head. "Not alone. You guys aren't going to be able to sleep at Michael's house while Jason's there and Mikey if you want to play the piano one of us are going to go with you. Don't worry about that though, one of us will stop what we're doing if you need to practice."
"Obviously I wouldn't be there without Michael or Alex home, but why do I need supervision if they're there?"
"You just do."
"And Ethan." Sam said. "You don't have to be nice to him and you don't have to like him, but you can't be mean to him just because. This means a lot to Michael and we're all going to give Jason a chance."
"All of us?" John asked. "Really?"
"I think if we expect the kids to do it we can do it too…right, Dean?"
Sam had really been dreading the talk with the kids but it was working out well and if Dean gave Jason a half a chance because of it then it was worth it. Sam didn't give a shit about Jason currently, but whether he liked it or not he was going to be in Connecticut before they went to sleep and being a bunch of jerks was only going to upset Michael. Dean was a good guy and a great father, but when he didn't like someone he had no problem letting them know and Sam was certain he was going to gear up for full on jerk mode
He was obviously really considering what he wanted to say and the kids were starting to get a little antsy. Ethan was just kind of staring and waiting, but Evan scooted over closer to Sam so he could play with Milo which meant he had completely lost interest in Jason already because Dean stalled too long. Milo appreciated the company and pointed out his favorite letters while Mary kept on playing with her doll. Mikey, the only one who always had to see something through, just waited. He was as patient as could be and didn't tap his fingers or sigh even once.
Dean was looking at him and then he looked over at Evan which he had been doing a lot. He was looking at Mikey and Evan or Ethan and Ollie. He was looking at Sam a lot and then himself. If Anthony wasn't off all the damn time Sam was sure Dean would have been studying him and Nathan very closely and trying his best to figure out what was right and if it was okay to not trust Jason, which it absolutely was. They had no reason to trust or like him and every reason to not do either, but it was more about letting Michael be a man and make his own mistakes.
Initially Dean had been fine with that but then Alex had to go and open his big stupid mouth. He pretty much put all the blame on Dean which just wasn't fair at all. Sam got that Alex would have been in for a much harder time if he said he didn't want Jason there but he shouldn't have expected them to be the big bad guys especially after lobbying for so much independence.
"That's right." Dean said finally. "We owe him a chance."
"Then we'll give him one." Mikey said. "All of us."
"Are we still talking about him?" Ethan asked. "He's boring, lets talk about Justin Timberlake."
"Ev-An. Ev…"
"Wha…"
"An." Evan said. "Evan."
"Whabah." Milo said before he pointed at his book. "Anbahwahday nabahdahbah."
"Huh, good enough!"
"Wah!"
"Daddy." Mikey sighed. "I have another question."
"Go for it buddy." Sam smiled. "What is it?"
"We give him this chance and he comes here, but what happens if he's mean to Michael again?"
"Don't worry about that Mikey." Dean said. "We'll burn that bridge when we get to it."
"Isn't it cross?"
"Most of the time, yeah, not in this case."
Mikey obviously didn't understand that but he appreciated the quick answer enough to lean back into Dean's chest for some hugs. It was a very good question one that Sam hadn't given much thought to, but apparently Dean had. If anything happened to Michael because of Jason prison was going to look like Disneyworld. Dean had the oddest look in his eye that totally freaked Sam out, but it was comforting as well because if they did have a problem it was good to know there was already a solution.
Ollie slaughtered the competition in the costume contest. When Dean went to pick him up he saw the bright blue ribbon on his chest with a big silver number one on it. It was pretty hard to miss, but Dean still buried his face in Ollie's costume just so he could get a close look. All his hard work had paid off and Elmer was in second place which was just fine with Dean as well since his costume was maybe a little cute. Holly didn't get third place, but she did get a participation ribbon which Dean assumed was because she was wearing a store bought costume. That made Dean thank God once again for making him so damn talented and handsome.
Dean really wanted Ollie to win and he was so glad he had because he didn't paint perfectly or play an instrument and he didn't have fancy dance recitals. He needed a little something special in his life and that ribbon suited him just fine. He had to tell everyone about it including Oinkers who snorted at it three times before waving to show his approval. The kids were thrilled, John made the biggest deal out of it and Sam told Ollie that blue ribbon winning Bumble Beanies got ice cream after lunch which was unheard of.
Ollie was just in love with his costume but he did admit it was hotter than Dean in a pair of underwear. He wanted to take it off and put on his sleepy time pajamas for his nap after lunch and as soon as he was done with that he wanted to call Michael to tell him he won first place. If everything had gone according to schedule Jason was presently out of jail and Michael was waiting for him, so he probably would have welcomed a phone call. Dean also figured if they let Ollie call he'd have an excuse to check on Michael.
While Dean helped Ollie out of his costume he was whispering about how nice it was to go to a big boy party and win a big boy prize, which did sound pretty awesome. Ollie's little honey bucket was filled with candy, cookies, cakes, and even some toys and he was looking forward to sharing with everyone, but Ethan was only going to get a few pieces of his candy because he was a mean big brother. Hearing that really stung Dean because Ollie had never seen a mean big brother, but Ethan was sort of a jerk to him sometimes. He hated that Ollie felt the need to mention it and Dean decided that a big brother to big brother talk might be in order so Ethan would stop teasing.
As a big brother himself Ollie was pretty sure that Milo should get most of his candy and as he was getting it he was making note of what he might like. Ollie had three separate chocolate bars earmarked for Milo and two suckers which were like a pacifier but better because they were sweet.
"Like suckin' on daddy Sammy!"
"Where?" Dean asked. "If I were to suck on him, where would it be?"
"A toes?" Ollie asked. "Or a nose…something ohs."
"Phew! I'll suck his nose later."
"Oh, daddy, he gonna like it."
"Don't I know it." Dean smiled. "Let's put your pajamas on, you're driving me crazy in those undies."
"Wight!"
Dean definitely had other ideas about what he wanted to suck on Sam, but his nose was a pretty good idea. They really should have had sex after breakfast but Dean was too distracted and there was no point in doing anything if you didn't give it your all. Sam wouldn't have cared either way, but Dean was proud of being a world class lover and he didn't want anything to break his record.
John was still occupied with the kids and new Halloween books so Dean took Ollie into the kitchen where Sam was finishing up lunch. It was the end of the week so they were having hot dogs and chili instead of soup and sandwiches. Ollie was pretty sure that was because of his ribbon and Sam told him that was absolutely the reason despite them having hotdogs every few Fridays or just when the mood struck.
"Here you go, Beanie." Dean said as he handed Ollie the phone. "One direct to Mifoo call."
"Is winging!"
"He might me busy but…"
"Mifoo! Is Mr. King the Beans!"
"I don't think he's too busy for Beanie." Sam whispered. "Will you get the fries out of the oven for me?"
"No problem, Sammy."
"You still doing okay?"
"We'll see."
"And a want all a candy!" Ollie said. "Wha? A dunno about that, Mifoo, but wha about Milo?"
Dean got the fries out of the oven, but he still paid attention to Ollie talking with Michael. He was noticing something that he wasn't sure he really liked because it made him question pretty much every aspect of his life. Ollie was excited when he was telling everyone about winning his ribbon, but he was most excited talking with Michael over the phone. His smile was brighter, his laugh was cheerier, and he just looked happier. Michael was his favorite brother or at least his favorite big brother, but Dean thought that happiness and joy was just because he was talking to his biggest big brother. It made Dean think about Michael as a little brother and what Jason might really be like as the only big brother he had left since Ty didn't count.
"A love you too, Mifoo, wit a hold on." Ollie said. "Daddy! Is Mifoo!"
"For me?" Dean smiled. "Is he excited for you?"
"He want a belly and a toes!"
"Someone's getting disinherited! Go check on grandpa." Dean said. "Hello?"
"Hey, dad."
"Gwampa!" Ollie yelled as he ran out of the kitchen. "Lemme see a butt!"
"Hey, kid." Dean smiled. "How are you?"
Michael was quiet for a second but then he started to talk and reassure Dean who hadn't asked to be reassured. They were barely talking for a minute before Sam's phone rang and he had to stop paying attention to Dean's conversation with Michael. Apparently Jason was at the hotel and the big breakout had gone off without a hitch. That took care of Dean worrying around Jeremy and Aaron but he was still so fucking worried about what was going through Michael's head.
"How's he look?"
"Really good." Michael said. "We're going to talk for a few minutes and then head home."
"Probably around nine or ten, right?"
"Yeah, if we leave within the next hour or so."
"Okay, that sounds good and…"
"Dad…I appreciate you trusting me with this. I know how you feel and it means the world to me."
"I'm just scared for you, Michael. If anything ever happened to you I'd…"
"I know. Ya'll go eat that big lunch and I'll see you tomorrow morning, okay?"
"Yeah, I love you, we love you."
"Me too."
Dean hated to say goodbye and Michael knew that so he just hung up. Even after he was gone Dean kept the phone pressed against his ear and listened to the silence. He absolutely didn't want to be a in bad place with Michael but Dean really wished he hadn't said how much he appreciated the trust. That made Dean want to reconsider everything he had already decided about Jason. He was so scared of someone he had only seen once, and maybe Jason wasn't anyone to be scared of or even worried about. There was a chance, a very good chance, that he was just like Michael had been when he came to Sam's birthday party and terrified Dean.
Sam was on the phone with Aaron and he had completely stopped preparing lunch. Dean took over and kept looking over to watch the little nods Sam was making into the phone. He looked so worried and Dean really didn't think they could handle much else. He just wanted everyone back home where they could keep each other safe. When people spread apart trouble could creep in and Dean wasn't a big fan of trouble.
The fries were all hot and golden brown so Dean tossed some salt and pepper on them and then moved them around a little bit. Sam had made homemade chili and it was way too hot for the kids to eat so Dean took it off the burner so it would cool. The babies even had a little pot of vegetables to eat and Dean portioned those out in two bowls so they could cool while Sam just kept on nodding and occasionally saying that everything was fine. He said it so many times that Dean lost count and decided that things were anything but fine.
"Yeah, I'll tell him you think that's for the best." Sam said. "Take care of him, we'll see you tonight."
"What?"
"Um." Sam said after he closed his phone. "Apparently it was harder on Jeremy than either of them thought. He's burnt out again."
"I fucking knew that was going to happen. He did too, you know he did."
"Yeah."
"What does he mean by burnt out?"
"He wanted to get some air and Aaron brought Jason to the hotel room. When he got back to Jeremy he couldn't walk on his own anymore. He said he's…"
"Excuse me." Dean said as he held up his hands. "I'm pretty fucking sure I said Michael wasn't to be left alone with him under any circumstances. They both promised me one of them would be there."
"It's not an issue."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"Aaron said that…" Sam sighed. "Well, he said that…"
"What?"
"He said Jason is likeable and…can't be held accountable for anything he did to Michael."
"Perfect." Dean sighed. "That's just perfect."
"And um…for Jeremy's sake Aaron thinks we should go over there tonight and really make an effort to welcome him into the family."
"Jeremy's sake?"
"Dean." Sam frowned. "These are two lives he's completely responsible for ruining. Aaron was very upset and Jeremy's going to be even worse."
"How upset was…Sammy."
Sam shook his head and then sucked up his breath. If he was crying Aaron must have been sobbing into the phone and begging them to give Jason a chance. Dean just hated all of it and none of it was fair. Michael had been through the worst possible thing Dean could think of and Jason had been forced to help drag him through hell and then apparently punished for something he had no control over all because of Jeremy. Dean knew it was the demon, but the were two sides of the same coin. Jeremy had to live with the choices the demon made just like the demon had a cozy home in hell in part because of the smart choices Jeremy had made.
"Jason cried." Sam whispered. "When they told him Michael was waiting for him. He thinks they're angels come to punish him for his sins. I can't imagine how hard this has been on him."
"Sammy, is there a chance he's playing them?"
"No, Aaron said he's likeable and loveable and he just…he wanted to stop to get Michael a birthday card and some Mountain Dew. He keeps calling him his baby brother."
"It's going to be okay, Sam, it'll be fine."
"I feel bad."
"Why?" Dean asked. "I mean reasons besides the obvious."
"He said he wished he was never born and…I haven't been able to stop thinking about that since. Maybe it…"
Sam obviously couldn't finish that and Dean was grateful for it. He didn't want Sam to say out loud that after all the pain the demon caused it might have been better for all those involved if he wasn't around and had never been around. Dean couldn't think of it as him never being born because that just made him think about Mikey which always upset him a lot more than it should have.
Dean was holding on pretty tight but Sam managed to pull away so he could get back to the hot dogs on the stove and the buns he'd still want to warm up. The kids wouldn't care about a room temperature hot dog bun but Sam's kids deserved the best and that was all they got. He was still sort of sniffling and trying to compose himself but he wasn't doing that good of a job and he'd have to calm down before the kids came running in for lunch. Dean could cry no problem because Ollie would just accuse someone of trying to get his belly but if Milo and Evan saw Sam with tears in his eyes they'd wail together for the rest of the day.
"Let's make a plan."
"Okay."
"We'll go over there tonight and wait for them to come home." Dean said. "And…um, tomorrow we'll cook his favorite dinner, we can bring the kids over there to meet him."
"Re…really?"
"Yes, um, treating him differently is just going to make Jeremy and Michael feel worse. I have to be a good enough father and brother to put my own shit aside especially if Jason had no control over what happened."
"Do you think he's likeable?"
"Well." Dean sighed. "Aaron is a pretty good judge of character but…you know."
"What?"
"You know, Sammy." Dean whispered. "Wink, wink."
"I'm…I'm lost."
"I think he might be a little biased seeing as he's a catholic priest."
Dean got a little smile out of Sam and that was all he needed because it just took a few fingers under his arms to make that smile spread. Sam was terribly ticklish and Dean snaked his fingers all over him to make him giggle like a sweet red headed baby who didn't approve of anyone touching on his property. Milo was yelling and fussing when John carried him and Mary into the kitchen for lunch but Dean shut him up with ten kisses on his head which were "Whabahdahbahday" according to him which roughly translated meant "Totally awesome."
While they ate lunch and talked about the rest of the day, Jason, and Halloween, Dean paid extra close attention to everything the kids did. Milo was watching Mary close while she ate which was obviously his way of keeping an eye on someone he didn't much care for. Ollie yelled at Sam twice feed Milo correctly which he apparently wasn't doing. Ethan, despite being a bit of a jerk squeezed out extra ketchup for Ollie and Evan made sure that Ethan got the crispy fries on his plate since he liked those the best. Mikey handled the relish on Evan's hotdog and the mustard because he always accidentally put on too much.
They were all looking out for each other, so while Sam fed Milo, Dean fixed him a hot dog with all the trimmings and then gave him a kiss on the side of the head. After making sure Mikey had everything he needed Dean relaxed some because all big brothers, little brothers, and baby sisters were taken care of. It would have been nice to have a big brother all his own, but Dean was okay looking after himself.
"Dean."
"What?"
"You're about to spill ketchup on your shirt." John said. "You're a mess."
"Sorry, daddy."
"It's okay." John said as he tucked a napkin into Dean's shirt. "You're a big boy today, aren't you?"
"Yeah, I guess I am."
"Yeah, you're daddy's big boy."
When Dean blushed John winked and the idea of wanting a big brother became ridiculous. Not only was a daddy better, but Dean was way too lazy to top regularly and if he was a little brother that's what he'd have to do since it was the family way and all. |
