Previously on Mikey...The gang's all in South Carolina for Thanksgiving while Michael is in CT with Alex. Sam's feeling a bit threatened with Jenny around but Dean's always there to beat him off when the opportunity presents itself.
There you go, a perfect recap since it seems like 45 years since I've posted Mikey. The rest of September might be a bit sparse because...drumroll...I'm moving back to New Orleans on the 25th. Bet you didn't see that one coming (unless you read my blog, in which case you already did) Anyway, I'm leaving here on the 25th and hopefully getting to my new house on the 26th, no internet until the 28th, which is the suck, but whatever.
And now on to Mikey. Bonus points if you pee a little when Sam calls Jenny "Satsu"

Growing up Sam was always arguing with Dean. It didn't even matter if there was nothing to argue about Sam would invent something if he had to just so he could get Dean to pay more attention to him than he normally did. When Sam was really young he'd stomp his feet and throw a fit and then his arguing was accentuated with a little bit of sulking when he was a teen. When he was in high school he could shove Dean while they argued which was always a lot of fun. Sam didn't know at the time that all that arguing, at least the teenage arguing, was all about sexual tension and Dean loved arguing back and shoving when he got the chance. He'd later admit he was hoping to get slapped or sodomized but Sam had never done that until much later in their relationship.
Since he had been so fond of arguing Sam sort of expected it from the kids, but they were just as nice as could be to each other. They always said please and thank you and each night before bed they all said "I love you." Sam was still waiting for the arguing to come up and as expected Ethan started it on Thursday morning and he chose to argue with Mikey. Most of the time he argued with Dean but Sam didn’t count that since he was waiting for arguments between siblings and not between punks and daddies.
Ethan and Evan wanted to dance which was just fine. Sam even said he'd join them with the babies who apparently wanted to dance as well. Milo had been running around and yelling since he had breakfast and Mary was walking all over the place. They both seemed ready and all Ethan and Evan needed was some good music. In fact they needed the best music in the entire world which had been performed by the greatest artist in the universe, Britney Spears.
Mikey took issue with that and started talking about classical music which made Ethan yawn as loud as he could. When they did ballet they danced to classical music but Ethan and Evan wanted to do some crazy freestyle dancing and they needed the fabulous Ms. Spears to accomplish that. To further prove his point Ethan bumped and grinded into Ollie until he knocked him over. Ollie then humped the edge of the sofa for a second before running off to get ready for a trip to the store with Dean. Arguing with Ethan was a losing battle even for Mikey so he zipped up his jacket, put on his shoes, and waited to go off with Dean.
It was actually kind of funny that Ethan was so adamant about defending Britney Spears considering she was about as musical as a cinderblock. Sam could have told him that but it probably would be like telling him Santa wasn't real. Ethan would no doubt have a complete breakdown and then refuse to dance again. Sam thought Evan would be okay with it but that was mostly because he came down on the side of Justin Timberlake who was very danceable.
After lots of kisses from Dean, Sam turned on the music and proceeded to have a little dance party in the middle of the living room. Ethan and Evan were both all over the place, but Sam mostly stayed stationary since the majority of his dancing only happened in gay clubs with his hands down Dean's pants. He didn't think he was a bad dancer but most of the time he was better off not doing it since he was so tall and bulky. If Ethan and Evan thought he was a terrible dancer they kept it to themselves since they were cheering Sam on and laughing right along with him.
Milo ran around for the first minute of music but then he noticed Sam dancing and froze in his tracks. He wasn't going to be left out and promptly began to clap while he squatted down some and stood back up. He was just sort of pumping up and down but it was still the best redheaded dancing Sam had ever seen. He knew he could think that since Michael would absolutely agree and Jason didn't dance or if he did it happened in private.
Mary seemed very interested in the music but it took her a little longer to actually dance. Because she was newly mobile Sam was keeping a very close eye on her and it looked like she was trying to figure out where the music was coming from. The whole house was wired so the speakers were in the ceiling but she just couldn't figure it out. Sam pointed out Ethan's iPod which was plugged into the stereo but that was a little advanced for Mary. She eventually gave up on trying to understand and just started to dance.
It was mostly laughing and clapping but it was still dancing and damn fine dancing at that. Mary even had a advantage over Milo since she was in a cute little dress which provided lots of movement. Sam was a little tempted to pick both babies up and spin them around a little bit but he wanted them to stand on their own two feet mostly so he could break Milo of the always needing to be held habit. Sam loved holding him but it was a little difficult to do while he was shaving or cooking dinner.
After about ten minutes of dancing the babies pooped out and plopped down on the ground. Milo went straight for his book and Mary grabbed her doll. Sam was getting a little worn out as well but Ethan and Evan were still going strong. At fifteen minutes Sam said he was going to take a little break and got permission that it was okay to do so. It came at a good time because as soon as he walked into the kitchen to get a bottle of water he heard a car pulling up outside.
Ethan and Evan were pretty good with watching the babies so Sam went into the entryway to investigate. No one ever paid them a visit and their earliest visitors weren't arriving until tomorrow. That had been the plan all along but apparently Justin, Craig, and Charlie had decided to come early. Sam wasn't mad about it at all but he did think it was a little weird that they hadn't called. He could understand Charlie wanting to surprise the kids but it seemed like Justin would have called to say they were coming.
Even stranger than that were Justin and Charlie both walking past the front door to get to the back of the house. James was back there and Justin was close to him but he seemed to be walking really quickly and he left Craig to get their bags. Sam wanted to go help but he didn't want to actually leave the house while the babies were being supervised by Ethan and Evan. They probably would have been fine but Sam was cautious and just waited mostly because it's what Dean would have done.
Craig didn't try to get everything at once but he did drag two big bags to the front door which Sam already had opened. Once he was inside Sam rushed out to the car and got the other two bags for him. He was nice like that and had no problem with Craig watching the kids. Ethan and Evan were going to flip out when they saw him so once Sam was back inside he ushered him into the kitchen so they could chat for a few minutes.
Sam really liked Craig mostly because Ethan and Evan just loved him. Charlie did too and Justin really needed someone to love. The fact that Craig was always dressed so nicely didn't hurt anything either. He was wearing a really nice pair of jeans with some black boots and a fantastic gray turtleneck sweater. It was extra cozy and Sam sort of wanted one for himself. It was a shame he couldn't borrow it but Craig probably wore a small and Sam was a big guy.
"That's a fabulous sweater."
"Oh, thank you."
"Where'd you get it?"
"Armani." Craig said. "My mom bought it for me."
"Armani?" Sam asked. "So I most likely have it in the closet at home."
"Seems very likely." Craig said before he paused. "Sam, um…can…can I talk to you about something uh…personal?"
"Hot top matters? Should I get Jeremy?"
Sam laughed a little at his own joke and then regretted it because there was something very wrong. Craig was always so full of life and he smiled constantly, but he wasn't smiling or laughing. He looked a little blank and lost so Sam nodded to let him know he could talk to him about anything. Sam wanted to help as much as he could but that little nod made Craig shake his head before he started to cry. He wasn't sobbing or choking on his own tears but his eyes watered up and he wept some.
"What's wrong?"
"It's Justin." Craig whispered. "I didn't know who else to talk to. I wanted to talk to Alex but…"
"You can tell me."
"He…he had this nightmare and I woke him up because he was yelling in his sleep and he…"
"What?" Sam asked. "It's okay."
Craig shook his head because it really wasn't okay. That big comfy sweater wasn't just an appropriate choice for the weather, he was wearing it to hide the bruises all over his neck. They were quite clear and Sam gasped louder than he intended to when Craig pulled down the turtleneck. Sam could see the blue and black area where Justin's thumbs had been and the rest of Craig's neck was just as bad from his fingers. It was awful to look at and it actually made Sam's stomach twist because it wasn't easy to make such dark bruises.
Sam regularly got a little adventurous in the bedroom but he had never and would never choke Dean. He hit him a lot for being bad and Sam hit hard but it was never hard enough to leave dark bruises. Craig looked like someone had splashed some ink on him. There were even a few jagged red lines coming out of the bruise from what Sam assumed must have been broken blood vessels. It was horrible and even worse because it was something Justin had done.
"Jesus Christ."
"He didn't know, Sam. He was crying when I…I guess when I came to?"
"You passed out?"
"Yeah."
"Uh…what uh…what was he dreaming about?"
"Flowers I think." Craig whispered. "He said something about azaleas."
"What…what did you say?"
"Azaleas. I heard him say it a few times."
"Can you watch the kids?" Sam asked. "The twins will want to see you."
"What's going on?"
"Just watch the kids for me."
"Yeah, okay…yeah."
"It'll be okay, Craig, I promise."
Craig nodded and took a moment to compose himself before going off to see the kids in the living room. Had Justin dreamt of roses or peonies Sam wouldn't have thought twice about it but he was almost certain that Craig misheard something and that there were no flowers at all. Justin had to have been dreaming of the demon which would explain why he attacked the moment he woke up and why he was there early.
Before he went outside Sam took a deep breath and downed half of his bottled water. He really needed something to make himself feel better and the water was what he had in his hand. It didn't do much but it gave him another few seconds of downtime before he pulled open the back door. He expected Justin to be talking to James but he was actually talking or rather arguing with Jenny. Charlie had wandered off to see Todd and Jason who were working on filling one of the bird feeders off in the distance. He was usually in the thick of things but obviously he knew when it was better to stay away.
Sam didn't know what the argument was about but he was determined to find out. Jenny and Justin really didn't get along that well and when push came to shove she was a big fan of both. Sam was practically running to get over there before things got more heated but the dancing had worn him out and he was too slow. Justin got in Jenny's personal space and just a second later he was dozens of feet away.
Jenny was sort of amazing because she was holding Becca and still managed to slap the shit out of Justin hard enough to send him flying. She sort of backhanded him and he sailed through the air and slammed into the trunk of one of the oaks. Sam didn't want to think about how far he might have gone if the tree hadn't stopped him and he really didn't want to think about what might happen if Jenny ever got really angry.
"Okay!" Sam yelled as he ran over. "Easy there Satsu!"
"What the hell is his problem?" Jenny asked. "God! Guys like him make me want to rip out his still beating heart and eat it!"
"Wow! You need to calm down. You're at like a forty-two and I need you just under six. What happened?"
"He got all up in my face!"
"About?"
"More of his demon bullshit!"
"My bullshit!" Justin yelled as he walked back over. "Our!"
"Fuck you!"
"Again with the calming down." Sam said. "And cursing while holding babies? Come on, just relax."
"What did he say he could do for you?"
"That's none of your business." Jenny said. "It was a dream. It wasn't real."
"You're going to tell me right now." Justin smiled. "Unlike the other men in your life I will hit you back."
"Justin…"
"What did he say he could do for you?"
Justin was trying hard to put the whammy on Jenny but she was just strong enough to resist.. Sam could actually feel the air crackling around them and if they started fighting he didn't want Becca in the middle of it. Jenny was so focused on Justin that she didn't even put up a fight when Sam took Becca away from her. James chose the perfect time to come back from an early morning walk and Sam handed Becca to him right away before sending him to check on the babies. Obviously James really wanted to spend a few minutes with Justin but Sam didn't want him anywhere around if they were talking about the demon.
"What are you talking about?"
"I had a dream." Justin said. "The demon said he could do something for me if I did something for him."
"Jenny?"
"A man with yellow eyes?"
"Yeah." Sam nodded. "You had a dream about him?"
"Yeah." Jenny sighed. "He said he could do something for me too."
"What about you, Sam? I mean recently."
"Recently?"
"Well, I know you did before, right?" Justin asked. "With Clark…but while you were awake."
"No…that wasn't him, it was just me and…"
"Just you in various forms offering to make you president?"
"Yes."
Justin scoffed and nearly rolled his eyes but he seemed to realize that would have been a grave mistake. Jenny, who was a hundred pounds soaking wet, had just slapped his face off and obviously Justin didn't want to get smacked around by Sam who couldn't hit as hard but could hit more effectively. Sam didn't give a shit what Justin said or thought, he knew that the whole Clark thing was just something his mind had created to help him cope with all the stress in his life. Clark was just a figment and not some demon in disguise. The dreams were just dreams too because the demon had been dead for a long time and he was staying that way.
"I need to talk to James about this."
"No, you don't." Sam said. "We don't talk about that with him."
"Then I'll talk to John." Justin said as he started to walk away. "He might…"
"And wit a no again." Sam said as he stopped him. "We don't talk about that with him either."
"What the fuck, Sam? You think it's just random that we both had dreams about him?"
"I didn't." Sam shrugged. "If we all did then maybe I might be concerned."
"What the hell could anyone offer you?"
"Lots."
"You're really being a dick." Jenny said. "Don't talk to him like that."
Sam didn't like the implication that because he had everything that wanted for nothing. There was lots of stuff he would have loved to have that only a demon could get for him. Those were things he realistically knew he was better off not having, but they were still there in the back of his mind. Justin really was being very rude but Sam didn't hold it against him because he could see he was scared. Jenny looked scared too and while Sam knew the demon didn't find a way back it was still something they probably had to at least discuss with Jeremy. Before they could do that Sam needed all the facts and he wasn't sure Jenny and Justin were willing to talk about it.
"I'm sorry." Justin sighed. "I'm just a little freaked out. I…I hurt Craig."
"He'll be fine."
"He told you? Why would he do that?"
"He trusts me I guess. If Dean choked me I'd probably tell you." Sam said before he paused. "So you could kick his ass for me."
"You choked Craig?" Jenny asked. "He's so cute and skinny."
"The dream was just really vivid and he woke me up, I didn't mean to."
"He knows that." Sam nodded. "What did he tell you he could get for you?"
"I…I can't."
"Jenny?" Sam asked. "Can you?"
Jenny and Justin both looked like they were cornered. Sam didn't need to know but he really thought it might help and Jeremy was sure to ask. He didn't do much without knowing everything and he'd want details just as much as Sam did. At first he just wanted to know because he was a little curious but as the strained seconds passed he needed to know because Jenny and Justin were both looking so ashamed of themselves.
"Mikey."
"What?"
"Mikey." Jenny said. "He told me that I could…he could just be mine."
"I see." Sam whispered. "I thought you didn't want him."
"I don't…I…he's better off with you two, I know that."
"That's not really the same as not wanting him." Justin said. "Charlie was probably better with Sarah and Greg but I never stopped wanting him just to myself. I don't think it makes me a bad person."
"I guess I…I guess I do sometimes. I guess I wonder what it might be like if he came home from Julliard and told me all about it, or what kind of brother he would be to Becca."
Sam wanted to tell Jenny that was never going to happen even with demon intervention, but she already knew. There was no way Sam was ever giving up any little bit of custody to her. He had the money and a whole team of lawyers to fight it in court. Jenny had made a lot of mistakes when she was younger and those were going to haunt her for the rest of her life. There was no point in bringing it up so Sam said nothing and merely prompted Justin to share his deepest desires.
"I can't."
"Why not?" Sam asked. "I'm not judging you."
"And I already don't like you." Jenny smiled. "Might help."
"He said I could…"
"Alex?" Sam asked. "You could be with Alex again?"
"How'd you know?"
"Just a good guess." Sam sighed. "Is that what you want?"
Justin laughed very quietly and then did something that was a cross between shaking his head and nodding. It looked a lot like a no and then it sort of looked like a yes too. He didn't need to really answer just like Sam didn't have to tell Jenny anything. Justin was absolutely still in love with Alex and if Michael wasn't in the picture they would have picked up right where they left off. Sam didn't really know where that left Craig and he was too upset to ask. Instead he stayed quiet with Jenny and Justin while the wind picked up and scattered some stray brown leaves around their feet.
Dean didn't know what to think about the dreams that Jenny and Justin were having. He was concerned about it of course but as always his biggest concern with Sam who quite vehemently denied any dreams. Dean knew that wasn't true because for the past week Sam had been tossing and turning all night long. People who had sweet dreams didn't do that but Dean still didn't think Sam was lying, he just couldn't remember what he had dreamt.
John and James were the authorities on the demon but Dean completely agreed to leave them out of the loop. The demon had nearly killed John and actually succeeded in killing James. It was completely understandable that they were a little touchy when it came to him and it was really for the best to not involve them until they really knew what was going on. The best way to do that was to consult Jeremy who laughed out loud at the very notion of someone coming back after being capped by The Colt.
Justin didn't really think it was funny at all and Jenny didn't appreciate the laughter either but it certainly put Sam at ease and Dean as well. Jeremy was completely positive that the demon hadn't just popped back up, but there were remnants of his legacy and three of those happened to be all in the same room looking for help. Jenny, Justin, and Sam, whether they liked it or not all had some connection to the demon just like James, Mary, and of course the big question mark hiding in New York somewhere. There was another special kid out there and for some reason he was reaching out.
In the dreams Justin and Jenny had both been offered something but they were never told what they'd have to do to get it. Dean found that very weird because demons as a whole weren't really about giving up something for free. Actually, the one demon he had ever seen was all about that but it wasn't like that was ever going to happen again. If they gave something they wanted something in return but Jenny and Justin didn't know what it was and they were afraid to find out.
There were a couple of things Sam absolutely refused to put up with. One of the biggest was not putting dirty clothes in the hamper and the other was when someone fucked with his friends or family. The mystery man had done both because he left a body for them and had shaken Jenny and Justin. Craig had even gotten hurt and Sam wasn't going to let that happen. He had been cooling his heels for long enough and he was ready to find out who was causing problems so he could take care of them. He was going to have blood on his hands eventually and Dean knew there was no way of talking him out of it. The body and the dreams were bad enough but Sam was always waiting for a strike against the kids and he wasn't going to risk that.
The problem was that whoever was behind everything was strong and smart. The angels couldn't find him and Jeremy and James could only get a very basic idea of his surroundings. He described it like watching a scrambled channel on television where he could sort of make things out but they were by no means clear. He couldn't get a lock on him and if he did there was nothing he could do to help out.
Since Sam got shot Jeremy was sort of teetering and he wasn't doing any big mojo unless he absolutely had to. He was one of their strongest weapons, surely the fighter with the most hit points, but they couldn't risk him going off the deep end. Aaron was just as strong but he wasn't a fighter and he wasn't going to kill someone. Sam was stronger than both of them put together but he was going up against his equal right down to the blood in their veins.
The more Dean thought about it the more he worried. It fell on Sam again to try and make things right and more than anything he wanted to wash his hands of the whole thing. He didn't want to be kidnapped by a demon or thrown into some fucked up dream world. He certainly didn't want to kill anyone but it seemed unavoidable because whoever was out there was bad news and had to be taken care of.
That was pretty much all anyone could agree on and as soon as it was done Justin and Jenny scattered. He went to hang out with Charlie and the kids and she went to check on Becca. Dean had never actually seen two people split so quickly and that worried him too until Sam explained Jenny kicking Justin's ass again. It was becoming a bit of a habit with her but apparently he had it coming since he was all about making demands.
Aaron had a little break at church and Jeremy wanted to call him so he went off to do that and Dean went back into the house with Sam. James was in there with the babies and Ollie while the twins danced and Mikey hung out with Charlie outside. Everyone was so happy about having him there and Dean was too. He was good for Mikey and the kids always slept better after a day of playing with Charlie who had the energy of a bunny.
Since the twins were in the living room with Craig everyone else was in the kitchen. James had the babies in their little pen and Ollie was sitting at the kitchen table coloring. He was also suspicious eyeing a big brown box that had been delivered just when Dean was coming home. He wanted to open it to see what it was but Sam had to fill him in on the whole big bad situation which unfortunately was more important than presents.
"Beanie." Sam said. "I have…"
"A know is a ham!" Ollie yelled as he jumped out of his chair. "A know it! A can smell it!"
"Hmm."
"A know you bought Your Beans a ham to get a butt!"
"Ha." Dean laughed. "You have to pay for it. Is it really a ham?"
"Maybe."
"It's really heavy. I could barely pick it up."
"Come see, baby." Sam smiled. "Let's see what daddy got you."
"Oh, boy!"
As soon as Ollie climbed up on his helper stool near the counter he slapped Dean on the ass and then tried to rip the box open. He had little hands though and while they were perfect for slapping asses he couldn't quite rip the box to shreds. It was taped and stapled and because Sam was fancy Dean had to open it up himself. Not only was the box huge and heavy, but once Dean cracked the tape he felt cold.
Ollie was dancing around on the stool and Dean didn't want to waste any more time so he pulled it open and then quite proudly presented the packing peanuts inside. Ollie actually did try to eat them so the whole thing backfired a little but Dean stopped him and then reached down into the great unknown. There was a lot of stuff in the box all from one of Sam's favorite gourmet stores in Westport. He had fancy candy and chocolates, as well as hunks of cheese for Aaron's Monday night dinner and at the bottom of it all was a big Styrofoam box.
All the other stuff was just there because Sam felt like getting it, but the contents of the cold chest was something he rather desperately needed if he wanted to stay on Ollie's good side. He was sniffing the air with his head held high as Dean removed the lid and pulled out an enormous hunk of prosciutto. Dean was pretty good with measurements and it had to weigh at least fifteen pounds. He actually struggled some, but eventually he got it out and put it on the counter for Ollie to inspect. James came to over to inspect it too which Ollie didn't approve of at all since he rather possessively grabbed it.
"Hey!"
"Good heavens!"
"You don steal a ham! Don touch it!" Ollie screamed. "Wha!"
"Beanie." Sam said. "That's not nice."
"A know he wants my ham! A heard him tellin' gwampa!"
"You heard no such thing!" James said. "I don't steal ham and I certainly don't plot to steal ham with John who is if I do say so myself suckage personified."
"Wha! A said ya sure can pump when a full'a ham!"
"James!"
"Oh." James whispered. "Yes, I suppose I did mention that to John…about my ex-girlfriend."
"First of all." Dean sighed. "I can pump when I'm full of ham too. Secondly, you asked her to marry you so she's your ex-fiancé and C, you didn't break up with her."
"I may well have!"
"What does that even mean?" Sam asked. "You would knock a chick up and then not call her."
"I will retrieve my son after she has him and then we'll go our separate ways."
"Oh, I did that, worked out okay."
"And where a gonna live?" Ollie asked. "Don think ya bwing a baby to The Beans' house! Wight in front of my Milo! Wha in a world!"
James started to talk about his plan for leaving Ann because she wouldn't join him for Thanksgiving and bring their baby, but Dean just tuned him out. They weren't going to break up ever and they sure as hell weren't going to break up over something so ridiculous. James was a lot like Dean and he needed someone to take care of him. He got that in Sam and James had Ann who wasn't tall and bulky but she had a nice set up front and she was awfully sweet. Dean had told James that a dozen times since they got to South Carolina but he was still annoyed that Ann was staying in Westport and not doing what he, as the man, told her to.
Sam had purchased the fourteen pound hunk of prosciutto for four hundred dollars, but he also ordered a pound of it already sliced. Dean should have known something was up because Sam had put cantaloupe on the grocery list and that wasn't one of their staple fruits. He did all that for Ollie who rather patiently waited for three pieces of melon to be wrapped. Dean got one too and it was just a perfect little prelunch snack. The melon was sweet and juicy and the prosciutto was a great salty and smooth compliment to it. Ollie even allowed James to have a piece while warning him again to keep his grubby mitts off the big ham and Dean's butt.
"And daddy Sammy!"
"Very well!"
"And don kiss gwampa!"
"Oooh." Dean shuddered. "I need to have a cigarette while taking a cold shower after imagining that."
"Can a go tell gwampa about a ham, daddy?"
"If a get a kisses." Sam said as he squatted down. "Do you love it?"
"A love you, daddy!"
"Aww. Can I get your butt later?"
"No." Ollie said as he shook his head. "A get your butt! Happy Birthday to Beanie!"
"Hmm." Dean whispered. "He knows he's expected to top on his birthday…I'll call Elmer."
"Elmah!" Ollie said before he kissed Sam. "You go get 'em to come and play!"
"Baby, he's in Connecticut."
"Will a fly 'em in?"
"Um…" Sam laughed. "I'll see if he can. James will take you outside, grandpa's with Mikey and Charlie."
"'Kay!"
Before Ollie went outside he went into the living room to yell at Ethan and Evan about his ham. He even stopped off and told the babies who really couldn't have been less interested. Mary sort of waved at him and Milo sighed before going back to his studies. He was still all about the alphabet book and since it was almost lunchtime he knew Sam had to cook and couldn't hold him. James left with Ollie and Dean was finally alone with Sam again which was nice but they sort of had to talk in private.
"You're dreaming about something."
"Perfect chicken salad most of the time." Sam said. "I think I'll make the one with cashews and then another for the babies in the food processor."
"No, Sammy, at night you've been dreaming about something."
"I told you I don't remember. Dean, I'm worried about this and if I knew what I was dreaming about I'd tell you."
"Is he back?"
"No." Sam smiled. "He's not. He's not coming back. Whoever this guy out there is might be real bad but he's not him."
"You sure?"
"Dean, you seem awfully worried about this."
"He killed James, Sam. He almost killed dad. He apparently had a major boner for you and not in a funny feelings during gym class kind of way. What do you think the kids or Charlie would do for him?"
Sam was just about to grill his standard fourteen pounds of chicken for lunch but he put everything down and came out from behind the counter. All the stuff from his goodie box was still out and though Dean didn't want to tempt fate he was pretty sure there was a little tin of dried sour cherries which were most likely for him. Sam had ordered to get the prosciutto for Ollie but he was never going to give to one kid without making sure the rest of them had a little something. They all would have just been happy that Ollie was happy but Sam didn't do things that way.
"Listen to me." Sam smiled. "You listening?"
"Always because my ears are so big."
"I like 'em. Every big bad badass demon in the world could come back to life and we could paint targets on our heads, but they'd never get to us. They'd never hurt us or the kids."
"How can you be sure?"
"Because with all the money in the world, legions of fans, and the ass of a sixteen year old, all I care about, all that matters to me is our family. I can keep us safe."
"Maybe fifteen year old?"
"You're a nasty old man." Sam sighed. "Fine."
"Yay." Dean clapped. "Will…maybe you can make the bacon and blue cheese chicken salad?"
"It's amazing how quickly you can get over peril."
"I do like bacon."
Dean got a very sweet kiss on the nose before Sam went to rethink his lunch plan. Chicken salad was never going to save the world, but there was a very good chance Sam could do it. Hearing him say that they had nothing to worry about one more time really did make Dean feel better. Sam said it with such conviction and he was totally right. If anyone or any thing tried to get close to the kids they had a whole lot of people to get through. Sam was the big gun but Jeremy and Aaron could hold their own without going overboard and evil which Dean was quite frankly getting a little tired of them doing every other week.
The other thing that made Dean feel better was that Mary was a little bundle of major mojo and Gabe was pretty sure she'd take care of them. Dean didn't want her to ever have to of course but if it came down to desperation he knew she could take care of them. In fact he sort of thought she was the best suited for taking care of them since her little baby doll was beyond pampered. Mary was holding on to it tight and stroking it's head while she watched and most definitely listened.
"Boppa."
"What did you say, you redheaded little…"
"Boppa!" Milo yelled. "Boppa!"
"Yes, grandpa is a total GILF!" Dean smiled. "Totes!"
"Totes inapprope." Sam whispered. "You know he has old man balls."
"He does not." Dean laughed. "I…"
"You what?"
"I asked…yeah, that's it. I asked."
"Dean, don't look at dad's balls. It makes me uncomfortable."
"I wasn't looking, I just remember from when…"
"Boppa!"
"Dude." Dean said. "I was doing a talking!"
"Boppa!"
"I think he wants to maybe see dad so they can…"
John barged in the backdoor like a bat out of hell and he looked incredibly pissed off. Normally Dean would have made a comment about that but he knew to keep his pretty mouth shut. John looked so angry that Dean was actually a little scared and of course he had to be standing by the babies who couldn't protect him like Sam could. The only good thing was that they were in it together and once John yelled at them for keeping secrets they could kick Justin's ass for blabbing.
"God damnit." Sam sighed. "I knew he was going to say something."
"You two don't get to keep stuff like this from me." John said. "Not that, not when it comes to him."
"Dad, they're just dreams. If anyone's responsible it's whoever was killing those people."
"We need a name for him." Dean said. "Anonymous Joe."
"I don't think this is funny."
"Neither do I." Dean shrugged. "But we keep calling him the unknown special kid and it's weird."
"Whatever. Joe is responsible and I haven't had any dreams."
"Obviously!" John yelled. "You chip away at the weak links first!"
"What?"
"You think whoever's out there is going to start with you? He's testing the water and when you least expect it he's going to…"
"Oh, boys!" James yelled as he ran into the kitchen. "The special child is gone!"
James looked about as happy as a man could be and Mary applauded the good news. Dean was even more lost than he had been earlier because someone went from being their next big threat to being gone in the span of thirty minutes. Justin talking to John about the demon wasn't that surprising but he would never involve James especially after Sam's warning. James just knew what was going on because Anonymous Joe had Sam's blood and he could be tracked unless he dead. James had been tracking him since the body showed up just to see what he was doing and he was never up to much.
"Gone?" Sam asked. "He's dead?"
"I…I'm not sure but he's gone."
"What the hell does that mean?" John asked. "What does gone mean?"
"Well, when a person passes away they don't just cease to be. No matter how you die your body stays warm for a while. Your blood stays running and our magic is in our veins. He should have faded out…dissipated."
"And what did he do?" Dean asked. "Just…"
"He's just gone." James shrugged. "Like he was never there. Like flipping a switch."
"Score one for my angels." Sam beamed. "See, they handled it for me."
"You think?"
"I'm sure."
"That would explain it." James said. "I've been keeping track of him to make sure he's not getting into trouble. He leads a very ordinary life."
"But you still don't know who he is or…was?" John asked. "How can you see him without seeing him?"
"I see a watered down version of what he sees. He's sort of billowy when I see him, faint."
"I think double bacon in the chicken salad!" Sam laughed. "Fantastic."
"Oh my word." James smiled. "Chicken salad?"
"Mmhmm!"
James wasn't much help in the kitchen but Sam put him to work chopping up some onions and slicing some bread to toast. Him and Sam were all laughs and giggles but Dean knew better to count his chickens before they hatched. He was hoping for the best but it was wise to prepare for the worst. Until they saw a body he wasn't accepting that anyone was dead, especially when there was the very real possibility that Anonymous Joe had just become strong enough to slip under James' radar.
South Carolina was absolutely magical but it really seemed to exhaust everyone. Sam could normally go strong until about midnight, but when they were down south he could barely make it until ten. The kids had it even worse because they were pooping out about an hour earlier than was usual but there was a good excuse for that. In Connecticut Sam didn't feel comfortable with them just hanging out in the backyard because if he was watching from the kitchen window there was a very good chance the kids might disappear since there were tons of places to hid amid the garden. In South Carolina Sam had a vast open backyard and the kids stayed out there pretty much all day.
Normally they played pretty hard and when Charlie was around they played even harder. Mikey would run back and forth with him until he couldn't breath and Charlie always took time out to properly address Oinkers, Spotty, and Petunia. Ollie loved when people talked to his pig and the twins were just as happy. They had also danced their asses off with Craig so after dinner and dessert they were ready for baths and bed.
As was tradition Charlie was sleeping in the kid's room and because Dean thought him and Mikey might want some privacy everyone else was going to sleep in the big bed. That put a lid on any sexy time Sam might have been planning but honestly Ethan, Evan, and Ollie were ten times better than him in bed anyway. It would have been nice to include Mary and Milo but Ethan was a little wild when he slept and if Milo got kicked in the face while he was dozing there would be hell to pay. Sam figured in a few more months they'd be ready to brave the big bed but until then they were just fine in their matching cribs.
"Number one rule." Dean whispered as he tucked Mikey in. "What is it?"
"No making out with Charlie."
"Unless!"
"Unless he takes me shoe shopping or grows big ears."
"Exactly." Sam smiled. "When you're older I'll tell you about some other stuff…sometimes you can get them to buy you jewelry, cars, or houses."
Mikey made a cracking whip sound and laughed directly at Dean which Sam thought was terribly appropriate. Dean of course tried to be insulted or at the least embarrassed but he knew he couldn't even deny it. He was cock whipped which wasn't so bad until you added him being belly and toe whipped as well. Sam didn't want him any other way though and if Mikey grew up to become anything like Dean they would be really lucky.
Justin was on the other side of the room pretending like tucking Charlie in was something he did every night. He obviously told him goodnight and then sent him to his room without extra kisses or tuck-ins. He was really looking a little lost and though it was mostly dark in the room Sam thought for sure Charlie's face was turning a little blue since Justin had tucked him in to such an insane degree. He actually had the bedspread jammed in under the mattress giving all new meaning to snug as a bug.
"Dad…"
"Remember what I told you!"
"I know, but…"
"If he tries to kiss you we can sue for sexual harassment and get you a television for your bedroom. If he wants to do anything else you have to charge him."
"Justin!" Dean whispered. "Jesus."
"What?" Justin asked. "Oh, you're jealous because I'm industrious."
"Uh, tried shocked and appalled you want your kid to resort to prostitution." Dean said. "And that you're obviously trying to kill him."
"I just fixed that!"
"He's a kid." Dean said as he yanked on the covers. "Not a vase you're shipping overseas."
"Oh, thank God." Charlie sighed. "Okay, I'm okay."
"Anything else being things where you have to take off your pants."
"Dad."
"Listen." Justin whispered. "I give it up for free and I don't get any televisions."
"You're a strange man." Sam said. "Goodnight, Charlie."
"Night guys, goodnight, dad. Night, Mikey."
"Goodnight, Charlie." Mikey yawned. "I need to sleep before we make out."
"Me too." Charlie added. "Get my strength up."
When Dean told Charlie goodnight Sam could actually see him twitching some. He was the tuck in master and always knew just how much slack to leave. Obviously he wanted to tuck Charlie in properly and give him a kiss on the forehead but he couldn't do that with Justin there without really offending him. For a second he looked like he was going to do it but Sam took his hand and gave it a light squeeze because the day had already been long enough without another fight breaking out.
Making out may have been on the agenda later but Sam was going to be surprised if those two woke up before it was time for breakfast. They were both worn out and Mikey seemed to be sleeping before Sam was even out of the room and closing the door behind him. The whole reason they were giving them privacy was so that they could talk to each other before falling asleep but that wasn't going to happen. Still Mikey did look an awful lot like Dean so there was a very good chance Charlie might mack on him a little bit.
Ethan, Evan, and Ollie were waiting in the big bed for tuck-ins and stories and Sam wanted to get that done so he could get to sleep himself, but as host he wanted to see Justin off for the night. That meant they had to go to the backdoor in the kitchen where Craig was accepting a new set of keys from John. Justin already had his guesthouse but apparently Craig had asked for one of his own, maybe one with a locking door and a bed he didn't have to share.
It must have already been discussed because Justin didn't say anything. He told everyone goodnight and then gave Craig a very sweet kiss on the cheek. That seemed to hurt more than the bruises on his neck because Justin was a great guy but Craig was scared which was completely understandable. They had spent a lot of time just talking and walking around the property but it obviously wasn't enough time yet.
"There's some candy in that house." Sam said. "In the kitchen area. I cleaned up in there for Jared and Jensen."
"Oh…I should take a different one."
"No, take that one, I just did the sheets and everything, I'll do the sheets in another house tomorrow."
"He didn't mean to hurt you." Dean whispered. "You know that."
"I do, but he thought that maybe this might be a good idea." Craig nodded. "Just tonight to see if the dreams stop."
"I'll walk you out there." John said as he patted Craig's shoulder. "Maybe we can get into that candy."
"Okay, thanks. Night, guys."
"Goodnight." Sam smiled. "See you at breakfast. Dad, can you lock up when you're done?"
"No problem, Sammy."
"Gimme all your kisses!"
Dean presented his cheek like it was the best thing in the world and John gave him one quick kiss but not all of them since Sam needed kisses too. It was really nice to have John around so much and staying in the same house with them. Dean just loved it because if he woke up in the middle of the night looking for a snack he could go find John, they could jack off together, and then maybe have some cookies or Teddy Grahams. Sam had yet to wake him up in the middle of the night for a snack but he was considering it though he knew better than to beat off with John since Dean would never forgive either of them.
When they finally made it to the bedroom Ollie was already face down in the mattress with his butt in the air sound asleep. Ethan and most likely Evan, had picked up a little framed picture of Dean that was on Sam's nightstand and perfectly balanced it on his butt. Sam was pretty impressed that the frame was staying up there but then Ollie was Dean's son and naturally inclined to have a masterful control of his ass. It had apparently been up there for a while as well because Ethan and Evan were both red in the face from giggling. They were also shirtless but Sam thought it best to focus on Ollie's butt being used as an end table.
"Which one of you did that to my baby!" Dean asked. "Tell me right now!"
"Uh…" Ethan said as he looked over at Evan. "Mikey."
"Is that true Evan?"
"Well, daddy…I don't know exactly." Evan answered as he started to play with his hands. "There was a lot of stuff going on."
"Lots of stuff, huge stuff!"
"Hmm!"
"Apparently there was stuff going on." Sam whispered. "And look at that Beanie, he thinks he's you."
"He is suspiciously handsome…"
"I meant because of the butt in the air and knowing better than to make any noise."
"I thought he was a top." Dean frowned. "Like mom."
"Aww, he might be." Sam laughed. "Now, why don't you two have on shirts?"
"We're gonna be like daddy!" Evan smiled. "Sleeping all sexy and making muscle noises, arrgh!"
"Rawr!"
"Sexy huh." Dean grinned. "I guess…well, would you look at that."
Ethan and Evan were flexing just as hard as they could and they had some long lean dancer's muscles. That was what they called them anyway, Sam called them "money makers" since his abs paid the bills. It had been about a year since Ethan and Evan first started dancing regularly at the studio and then at home and their efforts had certainly paid off. They weren't ripped, but they were pretty lean and there were some little valleys in their nice trim tummies which made Sam proud. It was the same kind of pride Dean felt whenever Ollie could eat a whole hamburger in two bites but that didn't make it any less special.
"They have like four packs!"
"You two are in really good shape." Sam smiled. "Did you have fun with Craig today?"
"No." Evan whispered. "Not really."
"Me neither."
"Why not?" Sam asked as he sat down. "He said you guys can dance everyday."
Dean took the frame off Ollie's butt and then smacked him lightly so he would go limp. It was really funny to watch him go down because he didn't even attempt to wake up, he just kind of fell flat to the mattress. He was right next to Dean with Ethan in the middle and Evan was next to Sam so they could cuddle. Everyone got comfortable and Ethan seemed to be prompting Evan to explain why they hadn't had fun with Craig.
Them not having fun with him was like Mikey not having fun with a history book or Ollie and Oinkers being bored with each other. They just loved Craig which was completely understandable because Sam loved him a little bit too. He was the sweetest guy and he never got in the way or annoyed anyone. Justin did that all the time and Jared was the undisputed king but Craig didn't step on anyone's toes and Sam liked that quality in people.
"You know how we're into gangsta rap, right?" Evan asked. "You know that."
"Uh-huh, uh-huh." Sam nodded. "I'm familiar."
"When you get some really good music and you dance to it, you feel something right in your belly. It's like it's on fire."
"Oh." Dean said. "Like when…"
"Not like when you eat chilli, daddy." Ethan said as he shook his head. "Nothing like that."
"Oh…"
"But maybe when you play the guitar or make pots with Todd."
"Or you daddy, when you're cooking or strutting around with your wiener hanging out." Evan said. "It's in your belly and it's hot and if you don't dance you might just burst into flames!"
"Okay, I'm following you."
"Someone put out Craig's belly fire." Ethan frowned. "And you just can't dance in a fabulous cashmere turtleneck sweater regardless of how fabulous it is."
"He doesn't like dancing anymore. You don't think it's because we're better than him?"
"While I agree you absolutely are better dancers, I don't think that's why he didn't give it his all today."
"Sometimes." Dean said before he sighed. "Other stuff is going on, adult stuff."
"Butt stuff?" Ethan asked. "It's got something to do with the butt?"
"For once, no."
Sam wasn't sure how to explain it to Ethan and Evan because he didn't want them thinking that growing up meant all kind of problems and responsibilities. It did mean that in a way but they were still kids, still young kids and Sam wanted them to be naïve and blissfully unaware for as long as possible. He missed that with Mikey sometimes and if he had to outright lie he was going to make sure Ethan and Evan didn't question what was really wrong with Craig. They were obviously waiting for something more in the way of an explanation and Sam was honestly about to blame Anthony since he was the cause of most of life's problems.
"Oh! I forgot to tell you!"
"What is it daddy?" Evan asked. "Did Craig tell you…"
"I talked to Michael and he's super excited about seeing you guys!"
"Oh, we are too, daddy." Ethan nodded. "I was just thinking about him during dinner when Jason was talking to me."
"We love Jason."
"You do?" Sam asked. "Really?"
"Oh yes, daddy." Evan said as he put his head on Sam's shoulder. "He's so sweet."
"He is and he said he's going to learn how to dance so he can dance with us. I'm glad Michael's coming, he misses him and we miss Michael."
"Me too." Dean sighed. "A lot."
"It's not much longer, Dean."
"I know, I'm…I'm okay."
Dean's subject change had made Ethan and Evan stop wondering about Craig and his lack of passion but then they started to wonder about something else. Not having Michael around was hard on everyone but Dean had it even worse because he felt more than everyone else. Sam missed him too but he was able to focus on other things and when he missed him a lot he always told himself that Michael was having some fun alone time with Alex. Sam was also a lot more understanding of the whole college thing where as Dean just thought Michael should take off whenever he wanted and his professors should eat a big fat dick if they had a problem with it.
Dean got a little antsy but he pulled Ollie closer which seemed to dull the pain a bit. Alex and Michel were leaving in the morning with Jared and Jensen and they'd all arrive around lunch time. Normally Dean was all about playing with Jensen but Sam knew he'd let the kids enjoy their big brother first and then he'd had to have at least an hour of private Michael time. Sam was always invited to join but he liked to give Dean some space. Michael always seemed to enjoy it too since he was all giggles when they were done talking.
Sam couldn't wait for everyone to arrive and while he was looking forward to seeing Michael the most he was also a little excited about seeing his hot cocked best friend Oscar winner and humanitarian Mr. Jensen Bunny Ackles. Though he wasn't much of a schemer Sam was already thinking of ways he could maybe spend some alone time with Jensen maybe by going to the grocery store or Wal-mart under the guise of needing some thirty-five cent jeans. Sam did have a whole plan for getting Jensen completely naked but it involved a five gallon bucket of honey and a can of Crisco neither of which he had on hand.
"Are you thinking about me?"
"What?"
"You totally zoned out." Dean whispered. "You were thinking about how much you love me!"
"I so was." Sam nodded. "You are my sweet, sweet, husband and I love you and you're pretty."
"That's really sweet."
"Well, I do…when they'd fall asleep?"
"While you were daydreaming about doing awful things to my best friend Jensen Ackles."
"Please! Jared is my best friend. He's so smart and polite and…smart…and pretty with a proportionate forehead…"
"Mmhmm."
Dean rolled his eyes and then pulled the covers up over Ollie and the twins. Ethan and Evan were so funny because they could be in the middle of a very involved conversation and just crash. Sam hadn't been daydreaming for that long, but he got lost for about a minute and that was all it took. They were both knocked out and Evan was nuzzling Sam some which was the best way in the world to fall asleep.
"Well he looks just like you, so I was thinking about both of you."
"I'm sure you were."
"Perhaps with sensual oils…"
"Have you no shame?" Dean asked. "There's a fat baby sleeping on me."
"This fat baby's about to be sleeping too. I'm exhausted."
"Oh…I was going to see if you wanted to take a little bath with me now that everyone's asleep."
"We can if you want to."
Sam knew that little bath meant a soak in the tub and at least two orgasms each. The hot water was going to do Sam in and if it didn't getting off would. He was really way too tired to fool around but he didn't want to shoot Dean down. Sex was so important to them but Sam didn't need it everyday and he knew Dean only wanted to fool around to get him off. It was nice at the end of a long day but honestly the end of the long day had happened about two hours ago when Sam was doing the dishes.
"Nah, save up and we'll stick the kids with Mifoo so we can have a afternoon quickie."
"Okay. Sounds good."
"Goodnight, Sammy. I love you."
"I love you too, baby."
With three kids between it was a little hard for Sam to get his goodnight kiss but oceans and mountains weren't going to keep him from Dean so three penguins didn't stand a chance. It was a sweet goodnight kiss and even better was the smile Dean wore each and every night before he shut off the lamp. It made him look him he was eighteen years old again which Sam enjoyed for the obvious reasons but in addition to that it made him look a little wild and carefree like they had never really been.
"If you start tossing I'm waking you up." Dean said once the room was dark. "You'll scare the kids."
"I'm not going to."
"Okay."
"Dean, what's wrong?"
"I want to make sure you know that I wasn't accusing you of lying earlier about the dreams. I just know you're dreaming about something and it's something bad even if it isn't him."
"I didn't think you were saying I was lying."
"You just don't remember."
"That's right. I bet you Jenny and Justin don't have dreams at all now that he's dead."
"Gone."
"What?"
"Dead and gone are two different words, Sammy." Dean said. "James didn't say dead, he said gone."
"Well, gone then."
"What if you do dream about him, the demon?"
"I won't."
"But what if you do?" Dean asked again. "Then what?"
Sam shook his head in the dark because he really didn't know. He didn't give Dean an actual answer but he did pull Evan closer and scooted over some so they'd be close to Ethan. Dean didn't say anything else and before Sam knew it they had joined the kids in slumber land. Dean made the happiest noises when he slept and Sam had just picked up on them as he drifted off.
For a week Sam had tossed and turned and that night he didn't do either but he dream of the most beautiful things that were all supersaturated and vivid like the way Mikey saw the world. All his favorite dream friends were there like Harry Potter and the Mad Hatter but there were no demons with yellow eyes or red eyes or even black eyes. Sam was on the look out and the closet thing he saw to a demon was Grumpy Bear who was having a picnic with Larry.
It was a wonderful dream and as Sam was prone to do when he was dreaming he decided to skip around and see if there was anyone worth talking to. He chatted with a few people and then found a beautiful meadow with lots of flowers ready to be picked. He thought a bouquet for Evan sounded like a good idea and it just so happened all those flowers were in perfectly coordinated colors.
John had said that Anonymous Joe had started with the weak links and was working his way up but that just wasn't true. Sam woke up the next morning completely refreshed and then got the good news that Jenny and Justin had also slept very well. Dead and gone were still two different words, but gone was good enough for Sam. |
